Nature of the Beast
Nature of the Beast, NOTB, or the Beast is the collaborative effort by local North County San Diego emcee MarkmyWords and Escondido's DJ Sinn. The two formed the group in early 2006 after separately working their local scenes for close to a decade. The two represent a true southern California hip hop style, heavy with aggressive rhymes, scratches, and tracks that bring back the feeling hip-hop is supposed to have. The two released their first professional 12" in July of 2008 to promote the full length Homeland Security that followed in August of 2008. Homeland Security was met with mixed reviews but held strong report with core hip hop fans and foreign audiences being hailed as one of the best independent hip hop albums of the year.
NOTB has worked with artists like Qwel of the Typical Cats, Pip Skid of Peanuts and Corn, Block McCloud and Pumpkinhead of Brooklyn Academy, Chino XL, Copywrite, Domingo, and many more. They have had the honor of sharing the stage with such hip hop heavy weights as The Grouch and LuckyIAm of Living Legends, Heltah Skeltah, Ill Bill, Awol One, Vast Aire, Qwel, and many more...
The two are currently working on the follow up album which is set for a late 2009 release. The sophomore album looks to bring a more polished sound and recording to the grimy independent acoustic found on the debut, but the heart of independent hip hop will be alive and strong in the duo. Look for the single from the sophomore album to hit soon, but until then don’t forget about Homeland Security and the B-sides No One To Blame, both available right now...
